Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

Health Homes Coalition of West Michigan’s mission and operational values are in alignment with our commitment to address environmental injustices and health disparities in a just and equitable way.

Our passion for an equitable society requires that we are inclusive, transparent, and fair in all our operations. We recognize we must activate change with full contribution from a wealth of cultures, human experiences, and input from impacted communities.

Our pursuit to advance environmental justice, racial equity, health equity, diversity, and inclusion recognizes environmental hazards and health disparities disproportionately hurt our most vulnerable communities, especially children, communities of color, income-challenged communities, and citizens who are unable to advocate for themselves.

Our commitment to building trust and community partnerships requires us to create space and relationships where all community members are valued, heard, respected, and empowered, so that our collective action is driven by a broad range of perspectives.

Science and impacted-community input inform our work. We know that systems of racial and economic injustice must be dismantled, and a new system created to bring justice to vulnerable communities that are most affected by environmental hazards and health disparities. We seek to address these historic inequities in all our actions.

To fulfill our organizational mission and live our operational values, we aim to make our commitment to justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion evident in our service delivery, organizational structures, policies, board of directors, staff, mission, and vision. We move collectively, taking leadership from impacted communities, and we act in accordance with the Environmental Justice Principles.

We are transparent in our pursuit of equity. We are accountable to each other in our network. We embrace people of all backgrounds and seek to foster a culture where everyone is welcome, and historically marginalized voices are heard.
